Once you’re in Ontario’s Highlands, you’ll find literally thousands of nearby lakes and rivers to fish from. But first you need to gear up with the right equipment so you can make that legendary catch.
First of all, you’ll need a fishing pole to cast with. With an abundance of lake trout, pan fish, walleye, and smallmouth bass found in the various water systems of Ontario’s Highlands, we recommend getting started with a spinning rod. But you can also visit a nearby sporting goods store or bait and tackle shops (listed below) for more tips on what kind of rod is best suited for the region. These types of stores can also make recommendations on what types of lures and bait will attract the most fish.
For ice fishing, you should get in touch with an ice hut rental operator, who can give you advice on jigging, winter-appropriate baits, and ice safety.
