Jaw-Dropping Outdoor Adventures in Ontario’s Highlands
As summer comes to a close, we find ourselves looking back and reminiscing about the many adventures and memories from the past few months. It’s also a time start looking forward to new adventures for the upcoming autumn months. Just because summer is over, doesn’t mean there isn’t lots of ways to experience the great outdoors before winter snows are here. So instead of looking back, let’s look ahead and plan a trip out to Ontario’s Highlands to experience the region’s one of a kind outdoor adventures!
ATV the Ottawa Valley
Explore Renfrew County by ATV and explore the many winding trails, woodlands, rivers, lakes and wetlands throughout the area. The Renfrew County ATV Club, offers seven different trail maps to plan your route, which go as far and as deep into the back country as your heart desires. Just pack your clothes and head out for a once in a lifetime adventure. There are plenty of towns and villages surrounding the trails with fuel stops along the way, so you won’t have to worry about cutting the experience short. Just sit back on your ATV, feel the wind blow past your helmet and take in the beautiful sights.
Paddle Bon Echo Provincial Park
Take a trip to Bon Echo Provincial Park and venture out on a canoe or kayak trip across Mazinaw Lake. Bring your own equipment, or rent gear from the park supply store. Paddle to the world famous Mazinaw Rock and take in the breathtaking sight one of the largest cliff faces in Ontario. While you’re there, keeps your eyes open for over 260 native pictograph drawings along the base of the rock, and learn about their unique meaning. As well, take the time to climb to the top of the rock, where you will find fantastic trails that cross the island, leading to some of the most amazing views in the entire park. Take a seat, look over the lake and watch the trees, lakes and rivers continue as far as the eye can see.
Go for a Mountain Bike Adventure
Ontario’s Highlands is home to a number of mountain bike trails that span across the entire region. From the Halliburton Highlands through to the Ottawa Valley, there are countless trails to ride, and many more trails to be created and found! If you’re an avid cyclist, or just love the sheer venture of exploring, a mountain bike adventure is calling your name. There are various off-road bike trails that extend over 450km in distance, with countless side trails, parallel routes and downhill chutes that make the trails a breath taking adventure. If you prefer a more comfortable ride, there are also extensive paved bike routes that connect you to all areas of Ontario’s Highlands. Mountain biking adventures are a great way to cover great distances, while getting the fully immersive outdoor experience that you’re looking for!
