Tour a 70,000 Acre Private Woodland Forest by Sled

This winter try a snowmobiling getaway like no other in Ontario, at the world’s only privately owned snowmobile reserve. Ranked as one of the top ten destinations to snowmobile in North America, the Haliburton Forest and Wildlife Reserve is 70,000 acres of wooded wilderness, crossing through towering old growth trees and 50 frozen lakes.

Tired of the usual trails? Avoid highway crossings and head deep into the forest to ride over 300 km of tracks.

For all of your snowmobiling needs while en route, the Forest has you covered. At Base Camp  grab everything from food to gasoline and oil, or rent one of the Forest’s fleet of ten SkiDoo snowmobiles with two-up seating and electric start.

Superior snow conditions in this part of eastern Ontario, plus the aid of North America’s only mobile snowmaking assembly will have you eagerly chomping at the bit to hit the trails. During the tour warm up and socialize with other riders at one of half a dozen shelter cabins equipped with stoves and firewood. After a day of touring, wind down at one of the Forest’s self-catering cabins for rent , or enjoy some comfort food at the charming restaurant, The Cookhouse, overlooking Kennisis Lake.

Before heading home, take advantage of all the Forest has to offer: try a dogsledding tour, visit the Astronomy Observatory and Planetarium, or tour the Wolf Centre to see an alpha pair and their pack roam freely amongst a 15-acre enclosure.

Location: 1095, Kennisis Lake Rd., Haliburton
