Remote Eco-Friendly Winter Retreat

Leave the chaos of city life behind this winter and head to an eco-retreat nestled in the Algonquin Highlands. Algonquin Eco-Lodge is a remote hotel lodge situated on the shores of a private lake, offering a unique wilderness experience while minimizing impact on the environment. The award winning sustainable tourism lodge gives guests the feel of a European mountain lodge, while on an expedition deep in the forests of Algonquin Park.

While enjoying the thrill of a remote wilderness experience, you’ll also have the chance to learn first-hand about how to live off the grid. Take a tour of the micro-hydro electricity system run by the Lodge’s own private waterfall, then take a dip in one of southern Ontario’s only carbon neutral hot tubs while enjoying a view of the private 30-acre lake. Before enjoying some home cooked comfort food back at the Lodge, warm up in an outdoor wood fired sauna while the sounds of silence drift in the background.

By avoiding direct road access, the holistic holiday spot boasts a degree of privacy sought after by so many – a vacation at the Eco-Lodge begins with a 2.5 km walk, cycle or ski (an ATV luggage porter is available if need be) before arriving at the secluded post set amidst sprawling Algonquin forest.

Relaxation in a remote setting isn’t all guests come for – an abundance of unique Algonquin adventures await. Cross country ski one of southern Ontario’s largest single trail systems; set out on a 3 day self guided GPS snowshoe navigation tour, the “Path of the Snow Walker”, (rentals and lessons included); take an icy dip and join the International Polar Bear Club; snowshoe the “Explorer’s Trail”; take a 3 or 4 day dogsledding adventure.
